Cases of Gunshot Wounds Treated in Divisional Field Hospital, Kabul

2.?Pte. H. Bullet entered right arm posterior to deltoid insertion and emerged after a course of two inches. A simple flesh wound. Patient recovered rapidly. B. 1.?Pte. W. Bullet entered immediately to left of 10th dorsal spine, and was extracted at the lower border of ri?ht axilla just below seventh rib. In this case the wound was followed by haemoptysis, and other symptoms of wound of the lung. Treatment.?Gallic acid internally, and perfect rest. At the commencement of the 2nd week there were slight symptoms of inflammation of the right pleura, followed ?by the formation of a large abscess communicating with the pleural cavity. This was opened and the sac of the abscess injected daily with weak carbolic lotion (1 to 60), after which the chest was carefully bandaged. Sedative expectorants were administered to ease the troublesome cough, and wine, beef-tea, &c.. freely given to support the strength. The discharge gradually lessened and at length ceased entirely, considerable contraction of the chest wall on affected side became apparent during convalescence. 2.?Pte. G. Bullet entered just below lower angle of right scapula, and proceeding outwards and upwards, was extracted at upper part of posterior border of axilla, below fold of latissimus dorsi muscle. In this case there were alsosymptoms of wound of the lung, followed by lobular pneumonia. Treatment at first Tr. Aconite and alkalies, later on Carbonate of ammonia. Recovery was very slow. '
